Description
The series of twins came about after design work on a mobile application where I used an AI image generator for illustration. At the time, I wondered about the specific, characteristic features of how artificial intelligence processes human image data, what are the current canons of beauty determined by the data provided to the generator. What is the image of the African woman according to AI and what is created by contemporary photography? With the help of the generator, I created images that were obviously idealistic and far from reality. The images created by AI are ideal robots created in the likeness of a human being. Through manual drawing techniques, which are never perfect like a computer-generated image, I wanted to re-humanise the human image, to bring back emotion and imperfectionism.
Why twins? Firstly, to evoke the duality of the worlds – real and virtual – in which we start to spend more time than in the real one…. Secondly, by multiplying the same image, I also wanted to evoke a reflection on the repetitiveness of digitally produced images and the impossibility of perfect repetition in a handmade creation. The twins were also the fulfilment of a dream of mine, which occurs mostly after I start drawing, to create something the same but yet different….
